Red Habanero

Seed Description.

The Caribbean Red Habanero stands out as one of the spiciest peppers you can find! This particular habanero is a wrinkled, fiery red pepper that demands careful handling. While it is possible to harvest this variety when green after approximately 70 days, for those seeking a sweeter flavor, it is recommended to let them ripen and turn red!

All About Red Habanero

For optimal pepper growth, prepare the soil with phosphorus and calcium by adding lime and compost before transplanting. Use organic fertilizer, water regularly, and provide proper spacing. Increase temperature with plastic mulch and a cloche. Pinch back tips for leaf production and to prevent sun-scald.

Harvest the fruit when it reaches the desired size and firmness, but keep in mind that sweetness intensifies as the fruit ripens. Picking young or green peppers allows the plant to continue producing more fruit. After late August, newly formed fruit may not fully develop or ripen. Before the first frost, uproot the entire bush and hang it upside down in a warm, dry area for hot peppers to ripen.

In optimal conditions at least 65% of seeds will germinate. Usual seed life: 2 years.

Timming.

Timing is crucial for pepper growth. Begin indoors 6-8 weeks prior to the last frost date, using bright lights. Wait for consistently above 55°F (12°C) night temperatures to harden off and transplant outdoors. For germination, maintain soil temperature at 78-85°F (25-29°C). Expect sprouting within 10-21 days.
